ROMAE A-ETERNAE / R ЄΡⲰC Q Roma seated right, inscribing shield set on her left knee with X/V in two lines; at her side, shield. RIC 195. Extremely rare and the finest known of the type. Minor roughness and with a small flan fault on the edge of the obverse, otherwise, about extremely fine.


This extremely rare piece is one of five examples from officina Q in private hands. Bruun based RIC 195 on a single coin (in Copenhagen), but now a total of nine are known. For a discussion of the D7 helmet type, see lot 3062 above.
